Don’t take the bait – Just Ask event features online safety

John Mott started his business in his home in 1992. His business had grown to the point he needed to open a storefront, so he opened ABC computers in 1998. He employs two to three other staff members depending on the amount of work he has available.

John has two and a half years of college education, but he is always learning because the computer world is always changing. About every six months, Microsoft comes out with something new. John is certified with Microsoft and has done work for Gates computer and Walmart, along with many other businesses because he says, "It is hard to find someone that is certified in Microsoft."

John will be at Fort Scott Presbyterian Village for a Just Ask event at 10 a.m. on August 14. He will share how you can keep your information safe on your computer, cell phone, iPad and your vehicle and how to keep from getting hacked through Bluetooth connections. These connections are part of the Internet of Things (IoT), the network of physical devices, vehicles, home appliances and other items embedded with electronics, software, sensors and connectivity which enable these devices to connect and exchange data.

While they can save time and effort, these devices can be susceptible to malicious software and endanger your personal information. The number of IoT devices increased 31% year-over-year to 8.4 billion in 2017 and it is estimated that there will be 30 billion devices by 2020.

John also will provide information on how to handle scams with phone calls and any other IoT device. John is a wealth of information so come with questions you may have for him.
